Quality Control Empowerment, Circle Gathers Wisdom

To strengthen nursing quality management, further enhance the nursing staff's ability to apply scientific management tools, and promote the continuous improvement of service quality, Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital successfully held the 11th Nursing Quality Control Circle (QCC) competition on September 18 in the first conference room of the heavy ion main building. This activity was organized by the Nursing Department and specially invited Labor Union Chairman Ren Baolong, Assistant President Wang Fengmei, Director of the Grand Radiotherapy Department Chen Dongji, Director of the Nursing Department Guo Yumei, Director of the Lanzhou Campus Nursing Department Zhao Hui, and four head nurses from major departments to serve as judges for the competition. Nursing stations from across the hospital actively participated, and over 200 people observed the competition.

Competition Scene

The competition was divided into two stages: preliminary and final. The preliminary round selected 20 outstanding projects from the Lanzhou campus, major internal medicine departments, major surgical departments, radiotherapy and chemotherapy departments, and special units to advance to the final. Each team comprehensively demonstrated the design of the circle name and logo, topic selection, root cause analysis, implementation of countermeasures, effect evaluation, and standardization promotion through PowerPoint presentations, with content closely focused on departmental specialties and practical management pain points.

Glimpse of the Participants

The judges conducted comprehensive evaluations from multiple dimensions including circle logo creativity, topic standardization, scientific process, effectiveness of results, and on-site presentations. After fierce competition, the first-floor nursing station of the Hepatobiliary Center ultimately won the Special Award; the nursing station of the First Radiotherapy Department (Lanzhou Campus) and the nursing station of the Second Radiotherapy Department won the First Prize; the nursing station of the First Radiotherapy Department, the nursing station of the Sixth Radiotherapy Department, and the nursing station of the Minimally Invasive Cancer Treatment Center won the Second Prize; the nursing stations of the ICU, operating room, Second Digestive Endoscopy Department, and Head and Neck Surgery Department won the Third Prize.

After the competition, the judges highly praised this year's QCC competition. Labor Union Chairman Ren Baolong fully affirmed the outstanding performance of each participating team in his summary, pointing out that the QCC activities effectively stimulated the enthusiasm and creativity of the nursing staff, demonstrating our hospital's nursing team's good mental outlook and teamwork ability. He hopes everyone will continue to integrate quality awareness into daily work.

Assistant President Wang Fengmei pointed out that this competition fully demonstrated the solid foundation and innovative vitality of our hospital's nursing team in quality management. The various achievements were close to clinical practice and practical, reflecting the professional level of our hospital's nursing work. She emphasized that the application of quality management tools must truly serve clinical practice and help improve the quality and efficiency of nursing services.

Zhao Hui, Director of the Nursing Department of the Lanzhou Campus, particularly emphasized in her concluding comments that QCC activities must not stop at the competition level but must go deep into clinical practice and be implemented. She pointed out that it is necessary to continuously strengthen the ability to discover and analyze problems, scientifically formulate measures and verify their effectiveness, and solidly promote the application of the PDCA cycle and root cause analysis in practical work.

The award ceremony brought the atmosphere to a climax. The judges presented trophies to the winning teams in turn. The face of every representative was filled with pride and joy. This moment was not only recognition of their hard work but also full affirmation and encouragement for the innovative practice of nursing quality management.

The successful holding of this competition not only fully stimulated the enthusiasm and creativity of the entire hospital's nursing staff in using quality management tools but also collectively demonstrated the professional literacy and collaborative spirit of our hospital's nursing team in quality improvement. In the future, we will continue to use the QCC as a carrier to continuously promote nursing services towards a more scientific, standardized, and humanized direction, providing more solid nursing protection for patients and injecting a continuous stream of nursing strength into the high-quality development of the hospital.
