On August 27, Professor Yasuo Yoshioka, a renowned Japanese expert in brachytherapy and radiation oncology, provided specialized outpatient services at the Wuwei Heavy Ion Center of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital. During this time, he conducted in-depth ward rounds on the clinical frontlines, tailoring internationally standardized, personalized treatment plans for patients with complex tumor conditions. This initiative not only brought patients access to world-class, individualized medical care but also served as a strong practical step in the hospital’s high-quality development strategy of "Global Experts Joining Again."

Professor Yasuo Yoshioka is an internationally recognized authority in prostate cancer radiotherapy. He has made groundbreaking contributions in the fields of high-dose-rate (HDR) and low-dose-rate (LDR) brachytherapy, intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), and stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT). He successfully performed the world’s first case of HDR monotherapy for prostate cancer.
During the ward rounds, Professor Yoshioka led a multidisciplinary team at the Wuwei Heavy Ion Center in conducting in-depth discussions on several complex cases of prostate cancer. From imaging assessment and target delineation to dose optimization and prediction of toxic side effects, every step was guided by the principle of “individualization.” This approach not only ensured the standardized application of precision radiotherapy techniques but also took full account of each patient’s physical and psychological condition, enabling the formulation of comprehensive treatment strategies.

In recent years, the Heavy Ion Center of Wuwei Cancer Hospital in Gansu Province has consistently adhered to the strategic core of "Pooling Global Resources to Empower Healthy China", and has continuously advanced the development of heavy ion therapy technology through five high-quality development initiatives. These include: optimizing the pricing model to activate the inclusive potential of heavy ion medical care; advancing clinical research in heavy ion therapy and establishing Chinese guidelines aligned with international standards; actively promoting a global alliance to solidify the foundation for high-quality development; and continuously deepening the "Global Experts Joining Again" strategy to build an international expert think tank that covers the entire chain of heavy ion therapy.
