To further promote the high-quality development of cancer prevention and control in Gansu Province, facilitate the extension of advanced medical technologies to local areas, and enhance grassroots-level cancer diagnosis and treatment capabilities, the "Mother River Cancer Prevention Public Welfare Project - Expert Grassroots Activity" was successfully held at Alxa Left Banner Traditional Chinese Medicine & Mongolian Medicine Hospital on August 1. This initiative enables local cancer patients to receive remote consultations and treatment guidance from Lanzhou Heavy Ion Hospital’s top specialists without traveling long distances, bringing this powerful cancer-fighting tool directly to communities.

Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital is a state-owned public Top-tier specialized cancer hospital. Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center is the second clinical application center for heavy ion therapy in China with independent intellectual property rights, operated by Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital. It commenced clinical operation on November 15, 2024, utilizing China's second heavy ion tumor treatment system. As of now, the center has completed photon and heavy ion treatments for over 230 patients, covering disease types including lung cancer, pancreatic cancer, liver cancer, and glioblastoma.
Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center has established an exceptional talent system, bringing together top experts. It features expert workstations led by 50 leading authorities in the field, including Shen Wenjiang, Lifetime Honorary Professor of the Department of Radiation Oncology at Peking University Health Science Center, and Professor Xu Bo, Standing Committee Member of the Radiotherapy Oncology Committee of the Chinese Medical Association. Professor Wang Junjie, Director of the Radiotherapy Oncology Committee of the Chinese Medical Association, serves as the President, providing strong technical support for heavy ion treatment.
Simultaneously, the center is equipped with advanced medical devices including Varian VitalBeam medical linear accelerators, Elekta Infinity 4D image-guided linear accelerators, 3.0T simulation positioning MRI scanners, GE Revolution 256-slice high-end CT scanners, and Varian GammaMedplus iX afterloader systems. These facilities lay a solid foundation for heavy ion treatment, ensuring efficient and precise procedures.
Aiming to establish a comprehensive, full-lifecycle tumor treatment system, the hospital operates departments including Radiation Therapy, Medical Oncology/Hematology, Surgical Oncology, Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Oncology Rehabilitation, Critical Care Medicine, Gastroenterology Endoscopy Center, Imaging Department, Laboratory Department, Ultrasound Medicine Department, Blood Bank, and Hematology Center Laboratory. Services provided encompass photon radiotherapy, chemotherapy, heavy ion therapy, internal medicine treatment, surgical interventions, as well as imaging examinations, medical laboratory tests, ultrasound examinations, and bone marrow morphology analysis.
