On July 18, Professor Xu Bo, Chief Physician of the Radiation Oncology Department at Peking University Cancer Hospital and expert from the National Renowned Expert Workstation, arrived at the Wuwei Cancer Hospital Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center to begin his regular work routine. His presence has injected new and powerful momentum into the center’s development in the field of cancer treatment.

As a senior expert in radiotherapy, Professor Xu Bo serves as Chief Physician at Peking University Cancer Hospital, Standing Committee Member of the Chinese Medical Association’s Radiation Oncology Branch, Committee Member of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association’s Radiotherapy Specialty Committee, Secretary of the Beijing Medical Association’s Radiation Oncology Expert Committee, and Committee Member of the Beijing Branch of the Chinese Medical Association’s Radiation Oncology Specialty. With extensive clinical experience, he has profound expertise in precision radiotherapy for solid tumors and comprehensive treatments for breast cancer, gastrointestinal malignancies, cervical cancer, malignant lymphomas, and other cancers.

Professor Xu Bo’s regular involvement marks a significant achievement for the Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center in advancing the Heavy Ion Treatment Alliance and its 50 expert workstations. This aligns seamlessly with the hospital’s long-term talent development strategy. Over the years, the hospital has consistently engaged top-tier experts, including Professor Tatsuaki Kanai from Gunma University, Japan; Professor Hirohiko Tsujii, former Director of the National Institute of Radiological Sciences; Professor Jörg Hauffe and Professor Olga, former Directors of the Munich Proton Therapy Center (RPTC), Germany; Professor Yi-Min Jen, former Chairman of Taiwan’s Radiation Oncology Society; Professor Chia-Ming Wu, a renowned radiotherapist from Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Taiwan; and Professor Junjie Wang, Chairman of the Chinese Medical Association’s Radiation Oncology Branch.
Recently, the hospital has further expanded its talent pool by welcoming Professor Yasuo Yoshioka from the Japanese Foundation for Cancer Research, Professor Kohei Takizawa and Professor Shiro Saito from Japan, Professor György Kovács, Director of the Lübeck Brachytherapy Center in Germany and Education Program Director at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Italy, and Professor Tung-Ho Wu from Taipei Medical University Hospital’s TMU Proton Center. These world-class experts form a comprehensive intellectual think tank that integrates Eastern and Western expertise, strengthening the center’s multidisciplinary talent matrix.

During ward rounds, Professor Xu Bo meticulously reviewed each patient’s condition and treatment progress, engaging in in-depth discussions with the radiotherapy team. He provided precise, individualized treatment recommendations, emphasizing the need to holistically consider factors such as the patient’s overall health, tumor type, and staging to develop the most suitable treatment plan.

Professor Xu Bo’s regular guidance will further elevate the center’s discipline-building and clinical capabilities. Moving forward, the Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center will continue to advance the Heavy Ion Treatment Alliance and its 50 expert workstations, steadily enhancing its comprehensive strength.
