International Experts Join Again — Wuwei Heavy Ion Center Advances High-Quality Development

Recently, Wuwei Heavy Ion Center has achieved new progress in one of its key initiatives for high-quality development—"recruitment of international experts." A number of globally renowned specialists have joined the center in succession, injecting strong momentum into the advancement of heavy ion diagnosis and treatment technologies.

On July 6, Professor György Kovács, Director of the Brachytherapy Center at Germany's Ruprecht-Karls-University Heidelberg and Program Director of Educational Initiatives at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, made his inaugural visit to our hospital since joining the institution. During his stay, he will conduct clinical consultations and ward rounds across various radiotherapy departments, delivering internationally benchmarked personalized treatment plans tailored to patient conditions. He will also engage in in-depth discussions on the application of radiotherapy technologies and process optimization. His visit will not only significantly advance the development of heavy-ion therapy disciplines but also accelerate the international alignment of our hospital's radiotherapy and heavy ion treatment technologies.

This marks the third group of internationally renowned experts to join our hospital since the launch of the Five Key High-Quality Development Initiatives​ at the Wuwei Heavy Ion Center in May this year.

On June 29, Professor Shiro Saito, a leading Japanese expert, joined forces with Professor Hirohiko Tsujii—already a long-term consultant at our hospital—to provide clinical guidance at the Wuwei Heavy Ion Center. Their collaboration not only significantly advanced the development of urology but also optimized heavy ion therapy for urinary system tumors. Their arrival heralded the official commencement of the "Recruitment of International Experts" initiative, a cornerstone of our high-quality development strategy.

​​On July 5​​, newly appointed Japanese gastroenterology expert Professor Kohei Takizawa from Kanagawa Prefectural Hospital Cancer Center commenced his tenure at Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital. He personally conducted hands-on endoscopy training at the hospital's Endoscopy Center and delivered standardized instructional sessions at the 2025 Annual Conference of Gastroenterology Branch, Wuwei Medical Association. His arrival not only significantly advance the development of digestive diseases discipline but also optimize heavy-ion therapy protocols for gastrointestinal tumors. As a specially appointed professor, Professor Takizawa will regularly work at Wuwei Cancer Hospital over the next three years, contributing to the construction of this national key specialty in gastroenterology.
