Gold or silver trophies pale in comparison to the praise of patients; gold or silver awards are no match for their heartfelt commendations. In the world of medicine, every banner of appreciation tells a heartwarming story.

Recently, the Radiotherapy Department I received a special gift—a banner personally presented by Ms. Zhang, a patient from Xinyu City, Jiangxi Province, along with her family. The banner was embroidered with the words: "Exquisite Medical Skills, Miraculous Healing, Boundless Compassion, Saving All Beings." This is not only a recognition of the medical staff's exceptional expertise but also a tribute to their selfless dedication.

The story began five years ago when a sudden illness shattered Ms. Zhang's once peaceful and happy life. She was diagnosed with "glioblastoma" and underwent a "transsphenoidal pituitary tumor resection" under general anesthesia at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University. However, one year after the surgery, she experienced a recurrence, presenting with nausea, vomiting, headaches, and dizziness. This relapse plunged Ms. Zhang into endless suffering and despair. Just as she and her family felt utterly helpless and hopeless, they happened upon a news report about heavy ion therapy, which reignited a glimmer of hope. They immediately contacted Vice President Ma Youguo at the Heavy Ion Center. After a patient and detailed explanation by Dean Ma, they traveled over 2,000 kilometers by plane from their hometown to Wuwei, arriving at the Heavy Ion Center of Gansu Cancer Hospital in Wuwei.

Following a consultation with the heavy ion therapy expert team, Ms. Zhang was treated with carbon ion radiotherapy, with a total dose of 48 GyE delivered in 16 fractions. Concurrently, she received supportive treatments, including dehydration therapy, liver protection, gastric mucosal protection, and nutritional support, alongside psychological counseling to help her build confidence in fighting cancer. After systematic treatment, her condition improved significantly—the tumor lesion shrank noticeably, and her quality of life was markedly enhanced. On May 8, 2025, Ms. Zhang returned to the hospital for a follow-up examination, showing stable disease and an excellent mental state.
