Q&A Session with Experts and Media
Heavy ion therapy is the most advanced global cancer treatment technology of the 21st century, suitable for over 50 types of solid tumors including brain gliomas, lung cancer, liver cancer, and pancreatic cancer that are unsuitable or unwilling to undergo surgical resection. It can also be used for patients who have not responded to conventional treatments, offering significant advantages such as minimal side effects, remarkable efficacy, and pain-free treatment.
Since its official clinical application in March 2020, the Wuwei Heavy Ion Center has treated nearly 1,600 patients, including those from all provinces and municipalities across China, as well as from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Belgium, and Australia.
In September this year, after four and a half years of clinical application, the Wuwei heavy ion cancer treatment system underwent an upgrade, with Treatment Bays 3 and 4 equipped with robotic-arm treatment couches coming into operation. This reduced positioning time from 30 minutes to under 15 minutes and increased treatment capacity from 50 patients per month to 100 patients per month. In November this year, the four treatment bays of the Lanzhou Heavy Ion System, operated by Wuwei City under the "Strengthening Provincial Capitals" initiative, were fully put into use. The Wuwei Cancer Hospital now operates eight treatment bays simultaneously, achieving a monthly treatment capacity of 200 patients, providing more convenient and efficient medical services for cancer patients.

It is understood that in order to effectively address the issue of medical expenses and provide financial support for the prevention and treatment of tumors among the general public, the Wuwei Cancer Hospital in Gansu Province has jointly launched the "Million Medical Coverage + Heavy Ion Treatment Green Channel" project with insurance companies such as China Life Insurance. For those who purchase the insurance, after falling ill and receiving heavy ion therapy along with other comprehensive treatments, they can enjoy a total coverage of 5.55 million yuan (4.05 million yuan for comprehensive medical insurance + 1.5 million yuan for heavy ion medical insurance), with the insurance company providing one-stop reimbursement for medical expenses. This project has already benefited a large number of patients undergoing heavy ion therapy and comprehensive treatments.

At the same time, to make patients' medical journeys smoother and more considerate, Wuwei Cancer Hospital in Gansu Province has partnered with China Southern Airlines Media to launch the "Heavy Ion Treatment Companion VIP Aviation Service" program. When patients and their accompanying family members choose to travel to Wuwei Cancer Hospital by China Southern Airlines flights, they will enjoy VIP-level services such as access to China Southern's private lounge and priority boarding without queuing. This ensures a warm and convenient medical experience for patients. During the promotion event, a unveiling ceremony was also held for the China Southern Airlines Media Group Employee Wellness and Recuperation Base. Ye Yancheng, President of Wuwei Cancer Hospital in Gansu Province, and Su Han, Deputy General Manager of the Digital Marketing Center at China Southern Airlines Group Culture & Media Company, jointly unveiled the base.

Chinese Heavy Ion Therapy—A New Hope for Life. The heavy ion tumor treatment system has become a major livelihood project benefiting countless cancer patients, offering them new hope.
