Warmth for Mid‑Autumn, Health for the Elderly — A Heart of Compassion Shines on Sunset Years
— Our Hospital Carries Out Mid‑Autumn Condolence and Free Clinic Activities
On September 23, the Evergreen Health Management Center of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital coordinated core medical resources from the Departments of Gynecology and Neurology to visit the Jinta Town Elderly Welfare Home in Liangzhou District, carrying out a themed "Mid‑Autumn Condolence + Public Welfare Free Clinic" activity — delivering festive blessings and health protection to the elderly residents through professional medical services and compassionate humanistic care.

The event proceeded in an orderly and warm atmosphere. The preparations for this activity emphasized the principle of "precise adaptation": staff coordinated with the welfare home in advance, systematically assessing the underlying medical history, daily medication habits, and living care needs of each elderly resident. They prepared Mid‑Autumn condolence materials — including mooncakes and milk — tailored to the dietary characteristics of the elderly, and set up three core service components around common geriatric conditions: blood pressure and blood glucose screening, specialist expert consultations, and health education guidance. Formalistic procedures were avoided, ensuring that every arrangement truly met the practical needs of the elderly.

In response to the high incidence of chronic diseases among the elderly — including cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, diabetes, and degenerative joint disease — medical staff conducted meticulous physical examinations for each elderly person on site. From precise blood pressure and blood glucose measurements and cardiopulmonary auscultation to reminders about medication contraindications and recommendations for dietary and routine adjustments, the team developed personalized health guidance plans on a one‑on‑one basis. Using easily understood local dialect, they explained home prevention tips for common geriatric conditions and repeatedly reminded the elderly to dress warmly during seasonal transitions, maintain regular routines, and avoid blind supplementation. For bedridden elderly residents with limited mobility, medical staff made home visits to complete basic health checks, ensuring that services reached every resident in the facility.

After the free clinic, medical staff sat with the elderly, chatting about daily life and the Mid‑Autumn Festival, and handed out condolence gifts one by one. The simple mooncake packaging contained genuine care. The elderly held the medical staff's hands tightly, refusing to let go, their smiles full of heartfelt warmth. Meanwhile, Director Cao Huilian from the Department of Gynecology delivered a special women's health education lecture for the female caregiving and logistics staff at the welfare home, extending health services to frontline workers in the elderly care sector.

This Mid‑Autumn condolence and free clinic activity not only responded to the health consultation needs of the elderly but also filled the emotional gap for elderly residents living alone during the festival through companionship — adding a touch of health protection to the traditional Mid‑Autumn celebration. Going forward, the Evergreen Health Management Center of our hospital will incorporate public welfare free clinics for the elderly into its routine services, continuously focusing on the urgent health needs of the elderly population in the area, and bringing high‑quality, convenient medical services to nursing homes, communities, and residents' doorsteps. Through concrete actions, we will carry forward the tradition of respecting the elderly, safeguard public health with the responsibility of healers, and continue to spread the warm positive energy of the local medical community.
