Stomatology Team Wins Big at Provincial Multidisciplinary Skills Competition
The 2026 Gansu Stomatology Multidisciplinary Collaboration and Critical Care Skills Competition, hosted by the Gansu Provincial Health Commission and organised by Gansu Provincial People's Hospital, has drawn to a close. Bringing together the province's leading dental and oral health professionals, the event saw the team from the Department of Stomatology at Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital distinguish itself through solid theoretical knowledge, confident clinical technique and seamless teamwork, ultimately taking home the Third Prize in the team category.
The competition centred on the treatment of difficult oral and maxillofacial cases and on the ability to work across disciplines, operating on the principle that competition drives both learning and practice. Against the clock, our team moved through the written examination and the hands-on skills stations with precision and composure, carrying the conviction that life comes first into every clinical detail — an approach that drew high praise from the panel of expert judges.

The Stomatology Team won the Third Prize in the team category.

Dr. Ling Chunyan won the First Prize in the individual category.

Dr. Yang Hui won the Third Prize in the individual category.

Dr. Yang Dehao won the Third Prize in the individual category.
The Department of Stomatology is a priority discipline within the hospital and serves as the host unit for the Wuwei Municipal Stomatology Quality Control Centre. Its momentum in recent years has been strong. The department is a member of the specialty alliances of both the West China Hospital of Stomatology, Sichuan University and the Hospital of Stomatology, Lanzhou University, and is home to the Wuwei branch of the Gansu Clinical Research Center for Oral Diseases.
On the equipment side, the department has brought in advanced systems from home and abroad, including CBCT imaging from Sirona (Germany), surgical microscopes from Suzhou Zumax, and the Straumann implant system from Switzerland. Clinically, it now routinely delivers a full continuum of care — digital implantology, clear aligner treatment, microscopic root canal therapy, surgery for benign and malignant oral tumours, and MDT case conferences for complex presentations — meaning local patients can access care of the same standard as the province's top centres, without having to travel for it.

These provincial awards are both a concentrated expression of the department's comprehensive clinical capability and a vivid reflection of the hospital's sustained commitment to quality and to the multidisciplinary model of care. In recent years, Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital has held fast to a patient-centred philosophy, deepening the substance of its specialty development and building out its talent pipeline, while urging every clinical department to benchmark itself against the province's most advanced standards and to keep honing the hard skills that save lives.
Looking ahead, the hospital will treat this competition as a starting point rather than a finish line. It will actively fulfil its responsibilities as the leading unit of the quality control centre, continue to refine its multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment system, and sharpen its capacity to manage the most difficult oral and maxillofacial conditions. Through regular academic exchange and skills training, it will further standardise clinical practice, raise the quality and efficiency of oral health services across the region, and safeguard the oral health of the people it serves — contributing solid strength to the high-quality development of local healthcare.
