This visit was a key practical component of the academic conferences associated with the Gansu Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine Medical Alliance, including the Third Council Meeting (Third Session), the 2026 Academic Conference of the Gansu Working Committee for County‑level TCM Inheritance and High‑Quality Development, the Advanced Seminar on the Deepening Research and Clinical Expansion of Gansu Bamboo‑Slip Medicine, and the Academic Conference on Integrated Chinese‑Western Medicine Diagnosis and Treatment of Bone and Soft Tissue Tumors. The delegation included clinical specialists and professionals in TCM, oncology, orthopedics/traumatology, and rehabilitation from medical institutions across the province. The tour covered key sites including the sand table model room, heavy ion central control room, treatment hall, smart hospital command center, rehabilitation ward, and the Dongli pastoral wellness area. Participants gained a systematic understanding of the operating principles of the domestically produced heavy ion equipment, its distinctive original technologies, clinical application outcomes, and the "heavy ion + TCM" whole‑life‑cycle cancer care model.

Leveraging the domestically produced carbon‑ion therapy system with full independent intellectual property rights, the center has developed a range of distinctive clinical technologies, offering unique therapeutic advantages for tumors resistant to conventional radiotherapy. At the same time, building on the rich traditional Chinese medicine resources of the Hexi region, the center integrates the precise tumor‑killing capabilities of heavy ions with the holistic, strength‑building, and toxicity‑reducing benefits of TCM. This has established an integrated" prevention ‑ treatment ‑ rehabilitation" service system, providing individualized, collaborative Chinese‑Western medicine care for cancer patients. At the smart hospital command center, the expert delegation learned in detail about the hospital's achievements in digital management, medical quality control, and smart operations. At the Dongli pastoral wellness area, they engaged in in‑depth exchanges on the integration of medical and wellness care and the practical pathways for whole‑life‑cycle health management. Throughout the visit, the experts discussed topics including heavy ion clinical applications, TCM oncology discipline development, alliance resource sharing, grassroots medical support, and wellness industry development, and expressed high recognition for the center's dual breakthroughs in high‑end medical equipment innovation and TCM inheritance and innovation in Western China.

Some attending experts noted that only through this on‑site visit could they truly appreciate that a nationally leading heavy ion cancer treatment hub has already been established in this historic Silk Road city on the Hexi Corridor. The integrated development model combining domestically produced heavy ion technology with traditional Chinese medicine was considered highly instructive. They expressed hope to leverage the platform of the Gansu Provincial Hospital of TCM Medical Alliance to enhance technical exchange and experience sharing, bring the practical experience of Wuwei Heavy Ion Center back to their respective regions, and support the discipline development and capacity building of medical institutions at the municipal and county levels.

This large‑scale collective visit by alliance experts served as a significant showcase for the Wuwei Heavy Ion Center as a provincial‑level academic exchange and demonstration window. It marks the center's ongoing expansion beyond clinical care — evolving from a cancer treatment hub into a regional medical collaboration center for technical demonstration, academic exchange, and experience sharing. This event not only served as a vivid example of mutual learning and consensus‑building within the alliance, but also generated strong momentum for promoting the homogenization of medical services across provincial, municipal, and county levels, and for advancing the high‑quality development of traditional Chinese medicine in Gansu Province.

"Gathering world‑leading technologies to benefit cancer patients everywhere." The Wuwei Heavy Ion Center will take this visit and exchange as an opportunity to firmly leverage the platform of the Gansu Provincial Hospital of TCM Medical Alliance. It will continue to strengthen the distinctive advantages of "heavy ion + TCM," deepen the integration and innovation of traditional Chinese and Western medicine, and enhance exchanges and collaboration with medical institutions across the province. By sharing clinical practice and discipline development experience, the center aims to promote the distribution of high‑quality medical resources to the grassroots level and contribute solid heavy‑ion strength to the development of a Healthy Gansu.
