2026 Primary Emergency & Trauma Care Symposium Held at Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital

On August 29, the 2026 Primary Emergency and Trauma Care Capacity Building & Advances in Critical Care Symposium, hosted by the Department of Emergency Medicine at Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital, was successfully held in Conference Room 1 of the Wuwei Heavy Ion Center. The symposium focused on addressing gaps in primary emergency care, standardized trauma management, and cutting‑edge diagnostic and treatment techniques for critical conditions. It established a high‑level academic platform for exchange between provincial and municipal experts and for the distribution of high‑quality resources to the grassroots level, further strengthening the emergency care defense line in the Hexi region.

The opening ceremony was chaired by Zhang Zhenshuai, Assistant to the President and Director of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital. Zhang Yong, Member of the Party Leadership Group of the Wuwei Municipal Health Commission and Executive Vice President of the Wuwei Red Cross Society, delivered the first speech. He emphasized that emergency care is a vital defense line for protecting public health, and that primary‑care emergency capacity directly affects the quality of regional medical services. He expressed hope that this symposium would facilitate the distribution of high‑quality medical resources and comprehensively enhance the level of trauma and critical care in the city. Subsequently, Professor Chu Pei, Secretary‑General of the Gansu Medical Doctor Association, delivered a speech. He noted that this academic platform should be used to strengthen exchanges and mutual learning between provincial and municipal emergency medicine professionals, and to promote the standardization and homogenization of emergency and trauma care in Wuwei.

During the academic lecture session, experts focused on frontline clinical practice and current diagnostic and treatment challenges, delivering a series of specialized presentations. The session was chaired by Zhang Zhenshuai, Assistant to the President and Director of the Department of Emergency Medicine. Professor Liu Danping from Shaanxi Provincial People's Hospital presented on "Core Issues in the Development of Emergency Medicine in Specialty Hospitals," analyzing key pathways and strategic approaches for building emergency departments in specialized settings. Professor Chu Pei from the Gansu Medical Doctor Association addressed "Doctor‑Patient Communication, Medical Humanities, and Law," highlighting the importance of humanistic care and risk management in clinical practice. Professor Zhang Ke from Gansu Provincial Hospital presented on "Standardized Management of Animal‑Related Injuries," systematically outlining treatment protocols and clinical standards for animal bite and injury management. Professor Yong Wenxing from the Affiliated Hospital of Gansu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine shared "Clinical Application of Warm Needling Therapy in TCM," promoting the integration of TCM techniques in emergency and critical care. Professor Sun Zhijiang from Gansu Provincial Hospital presented on "Brain Protection After Cardiac Arrest," discussing cutting‑edge neuroprotective strategies following cardiopulmonary arrest. Professor Liu Shaoguang from Gansu Provincial Hospital presented on "Management Strategies for Traumatic Liver Injury – Interpretation of Domestic and International Guidelines and Single‑Center Case Experience," combining guideline interpretation with practical case experience. In recent years, the Department of Emergency Medicine at Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital has coordinated operations across its central and heavy ion campuses. As a sub‑center of the Wuwei 120 emergency medical service, the department has established an integrated emergency care system covering pre‑hospital care, emergency resuscitation, and intensive care. With comprehensive functional layout, well‑equipped emergency facilities, and a professional team of 26 members, the department has demonstrated solid comprehensive treatment capabilities and has been recognized as a municipal‑level outstanding medical team. The department efficiently manages a wide range of critical conditions and maintains emergency green channels for high‑risk diseases. It has established a provincial‑level Grade III trauma center and recently added a dog‑bite injury clinic, continuously strengthening the regional emergency response network.

This event established an integrated platform combining academic exchange, clinical mentoring, and public health services. Going forward, our hospital will continue to implement policies supporting the integrated development of traditional Chinese and Western medicine, regularly conduct academic and public‑service activities, refine the whole‑life‑cycle integrated TCM‑Western oncology care system, and enhance comprehensive cancer care capacity in the Hexi region.

In the future, our Department of Emergency Medicine will take this symposium as an opportunity to leverage the resources of the Heavy Ion Center, optimize discipline development, strengthen talent training and technological advancement, deepen regional medical collaboration, and distribute high‑quality medical resources to the grassroots level — addressing gaps in primary emergency care. Through these efforts, we will continue to improve the standardization of regional emergency, critical care, and trauma management, contributing to the high‑quality development of healthcare in Wuwei.
