Experts Yu Zhilong & Zhao Ren Lead Joint Radiotherapy Rounds at Our Hospital

On July 9, Professor Yu Zhilong, a radiotherapy expert from the Affiliated Hospital of Inner Mongolia Medical University, and Professor Zhao Ren from the Department of Radiation Oncology at the General Hospital of Ningxia Medical University, were invited to visit the Wuwei Heavy Ion Center of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital. Together, they conducted joint ward rounds, multidisciplinary consultations on complex cases, and on‑site clinical guidance. The collaborative visit of these two professors represents a solid step forward in our hospital's efforts to advance the Heavy Ion Therapy Alliance and the development of its 50 expert workstations, while also enabling local patients to access high‑quality medical care close to home.

The two professors jointly conducted rounds in the radiation oncology ward and the heavy ion therapy center, carefully assessing each patient with complex or critical conditions. They took detailed medical histories, thoroughly reviewed imaging studies, and engaged in in‑depth discussions with our radiotherapy team, integrating clinical progression with treatment course. Drawing on their respective academic perspectives, they provided detailed explanations and precise evaluations on the development of comprehensive radiotherapy treatment plans, customizing personalized care for each patient. Their insights broadened the team's clinical perspectives and standardized procedural practices. During outpatient sessions, they received patients with patience, meticulously reviewed imaging findings, and provided authoritative, professional recommendations based on clinical staging — earning wide recognition and praise from both patients and their families.

As the first hospital in China to operate two heavy ion therapy systems simultaneously, our hospital has achieved breakthroughs in synchronized clinical application of dual systems, single‑fraction same‑day treatment, precision radiotherapy under ventilator control, precise bladder cancer treatment, and high‑difficulty cardiac tumor therapy. Our original techniques — including single‑fraction precision radiotherapy using organ‑tumor spacer implantation and dual Bragg peak lattice radiotherapy — are at the forefront of the field.

The joint visit of these two professors is a vivid example of our hospital's commitment to its mission: "gathering world‑leading technologies to benefit cancer patients everywhere." Our hospital will continue to build academic bridges with an open approach, regularly inviting nationally recognized experts for joint ward rounds, consultations, teaching, and mentoring. This will help advance the homogenization of care quality and better serve patients in our local area and beyond.
