Heavy Ion Therapy Guideline & Health Economics Study Launch Meeting Held

On June 18, the launch meeting for the Preliminary Research Project for the Clinical Practice Guideline on Heavy Ion Therapy for Tumors and the Health Economics Evaluation Study on Heavy Ion Therapy for Tumors was held at the Heavy Ion Campus of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital. Professor Yang Kehu's team from Lanzhou University and experts from Beijing Shi’aikang Health Technology Co., Ltd. visited the Wuwei Heavy Ion Center for an on‑site investigation and attended the launch meeting.

On the morning of the same day, Professor Yang Kehu's team from Lanzhou University, accompanied by hospital staff, toured the Wuwei Heavy Ion Campus to learn about its functional layout and the operational workflow of the heavy ion therapy system. The team then visited the Cancer Registry and Follow‑up Office to review relevant materials and exchanged views with staff on follow‑up data management and research accumulation. Subsequently, the team toured the research building and several clinical departments to gain insight into departmental operations and current research activities.

At 3:00 PM, the project launch meeting was held in Meeting Room 2 of the main building at the Heavy Ion Campus, chaired by Vice President Nie Peng. Ye Yancheng, President of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital, first delivered a report titled *"Wuwei Heavy Ion Clinical Report and Research Overview,"* presenting clinical treatment data, the distribution of treated tumor types, and progress on research projects at the center since its operation began. Professor Yang Kehu from Lanzhou University then gave a report on *"Current Status of Clinical Practice Guidelines at Home and Abroad, and the Importance and Implementation of Guidelines for Heavy Ion Therapy,"* reviewing the development of clinical practice guidelines both domestically and internationally, and explaining the need for and key steps in developing guidelines specific to heavy ion therapy. Professor Li Xiuxia from Lanzhou University presented a report titled *"Preparations for the Health Economics Study on Heavy Ion Therapy: Content, Plan, and Key Points,"* outlining the study framework, data requirements, and follow‑up arrangements. Following the presentations, participants engaged in discussions on project design, research methodology, and data acquisition.

The launch of these projects marks tangible progress in the clinical standardization and evidence‑based research efforts at the Wuwei Heavy Ion Center. The preliminary research for the clinical practice guidelines will systematically review existing clinical evidence, providing a standardized framework for selecting indications and developing treatment protocols for heavy ion therapy. The health economics evaluation will conduct quantitative analyses of treatment costs and health outcomes, providing data to support future reimbursement decisions and the optimal allocation of healthcare resources. Going forward, the hospital will continue to advance the development of a precision diagnosis and treatment system for heavy ion therapy, accumulate high‑quality clinical data, refine clinical standards and quality control benchmarks, and continuously optimize patient management across the entire care pathway, with the goal of contributing replicable practical experience to the high‑quality development of China's heavy ion medicine.
