Professor Lan Shengmin – Expert Consultations & Rounds for Precision Cancer Car
On June 12, Professor Lan Shengmin, Chief Physician of the Radiation Oncology Department at Shanxi Cancer Hospital, visited our hospital to provide specialized oncology consultations, complex case rounds, and radiation therapy technique guidance. With decades of deep experience in radiation oncology and extensive clinical expertise, Professor Lan has comprehensively strengthened our hospital’s capacity for specialized radiation oncology care. As a result, local and regional cancer patients now have access to precise, standardized, and personalized high‑quality radiotherapy and comprehensive treatment services, sparing them the burden of traveling far from home for expert care.
Professor Lan Shengmin is a Chief Physician in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Shanxi Cancer Hospital and serves as Vice Chair of the Head and Neck Tumor Professional Committee of the Shanxi Branch of the China Anti‑Cancer Association. He is a highly influential expert in radiation oncology in Shanxi Province, with many years of experience in the radiation therapy and comprehensive treatment of malignant tumors, and extensive expertise in managing complex cases. His clinical focus includes the precise diagnosis, standardized treatment, and prognostic evaluation of both common and difficult‑to‑treat malignancies, including head and neck tumors, neurological tumors, bone and soft tissue tumors, skin tumors, breast cancer, malignant lymphoma, and lung cancer. He is particularly skilled in managing intracranial and cervical metastases. By integrating radiotherapy, hyperthermia, chemotherapy, and biotherapy, Professor Lan develops individualized treatment plans for each patient, emphasizing multimodal approaches to improve tumor control rates and quality of life.

During his visit, Professor Lan Shengmin conducted thorough rounds in the radiation oncology ward, carefully assessing the recovery and treatment progress of each hospitalized cancer patient. He patiently reassured patients, thoroughly addressed the various diagnostic and treatment concerns raised by family members, and helped alleviate patient anxiety. At the same time, through in‑depth discussions with our radiation oncology and oncology medical and nursing teams — using specific patient cases as examples — Professor Lan provided detailed, step‑by‑step guidance on key aspects such as target volume delineation, treatment dose adjustment, optimization of comprehensive treatment plans, complication prevention and management, and prognostic follow‑up. By sharing cutting‑edge concepts and hands‑on clinical experience, he helped our medical and nursing teams further strengthen their foundational knowledge and enhance practical skills in clinical oncology care.

Professor Lan Shengmin’s visit and clinical guidance represent another powerful example of our hospital’s commitment to its mission: "gathering world‑leading technologies to benefit cancer patients everywhere." As the only hospital in the world operating two heavy ion therapy systems, Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital is dedicated to the ongoing development and innovation of cancer treatment technologies. Since the Wuwei Heavy Ion Center officially began clinical treatment in March 2020, it has successfully treated over 2,900 patients, achieving significant clinical outcomes. The range of treated tumor types is broad — covering more than 100 types, including lung cancer, pancreatic cancer, liver cancer, and glioblastoma — and patients have come from all over China, including Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, as well as from countries such as Australia, Belgium, South Korea, Vietnam, and Malaysia.
