Practicing Humanistic Care Through Precise Services, Advancing the Protection of Life and Health

On October 11, the 21st World Hospice and Palliative Care Day (WHPCD) arrived as scheduled. Focusing on the annual theme of "Compassionate Communities: Healing Hearts Together," Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital, leveraging its medical technological advantages and multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment resources, conducted public welfare free clinics at Donghe Town Health Center in Wuwei City and the inpatient department of the Heavy Ion Branch of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital. The activities brought precise medical services and the concept of humanistic care directly to grassroots communities and cancer patients, interpreting the people-oriented core value of hospice and palliative care with practical actions.

As a professional medical institution that took the lead in implementing heavy ion therapy within the region, this free clinic by Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital deeply highlighted the distinctive features of "technological advantage + disciplinary synergy." The hospital meticulously formed a specialized diagnosis and treatment team, with members consisting of key physicians from core departments such as Geriatrics, Pain Medicine, Urology, and the Sixth Department of Radiotherapy. Relying on the professional expertise and collaborative experience of various disciplines, the team provided targeted solutions for health needs in different scenarios, truly allowing advanced medical resources to serve those in need.

At Donghe Town Health Center, the free clinic team focused its services on the health concerns of the elderly grassroots population. Addressing common needs among the elderly, such as chronic pain management and prevention of chronic disease complications, the physicians not only developed personalized diagnosis and treatment plans for each individual but also put the concept of whole-life-cycle health management into practice through detailed health guidance. From daily care details to medication safety reminders, every piece of advice revolved around "ensuring care for the aged and treatment for the sick," effectively enhancing the health security level of the elderly grassroots population.

At the inpatient department of the Heavy Ion Branch, the medical staff centered their services on patient diagnosis, treatment, and care. Focusing on core issues such as treatment phase care and rehabilitation management, the team clarified treatment directions through in-depth case analysis, ensured treatment safety with precise medication guidance, and alleviated the physical and mental pressure of patients and their families with professional psychological counseling. Throughout this process, the core concept of hospice and palliative care—"alleviating suffering and enhancing quality of life"—was deeply integrated into the entire diagnosis and treatment process, helping patients face the challenges of disease more calmly.
