—Radiotherapy Authority Expert Yu Zhilong Works Regularly at Wuwei Heavy Ion Center
On September 13, Professor Yu Zhilong, an expert from the Radiotherapy Department of the Affiliated Hospital of Inner Mongolia Medical University and a member of the CNNC Heavy Ion Consultation Center, commenced his regular work at the Wuwei Heavy Ion Center. He immersed himself in various radiotherapy departments, participating in clinical rounds and discussions on complex cases, while providing on-site guidance on cutting-edge treatment technologies. His contributions brought invaluable clinical experience and innovative ideas to the center.

Professor Yu Zhilong is a seasoned expert in the field of radiotherapy, currently serving as a chief physician and master’s supervisor. He is also the founding chairman of the Inner Mongolia Medical Association Radiation Oncology Branch and the Inner Mongolia Medical Doctor Association Radiation Therapy Branch, as well as the director of the Inner Mongolia Radiotherapy Quality Control Center. Among his accolades are the "First China Bethune-style Good Doctor Nomination Award" and the "First Inner Mongolia People’s Good Doctor Award." He specializes in radiotherapy and comprehensive treatment for nasopharyngeal cancer, laryngeal cancer, brain tumors, lung cancer, breast cancer, esophageal cancer, and various urogenital system tumors. He is highly renowned and influential in precision radiotherapy technologies such as Gamma Knife.

In recent years, Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital has made significant strides in advancing the Heavy Ion Treatment Alliance and the establishment of 50 expert workstations. As the only medical institution globally operating two heavy ion treatment systems simultaneously, the hospital has completed over 2,200 treatments since the Wuwei Heavy Ion Center began clinical operations in March 2020. These treatments cover more than 50 types of cancers, including lung cancer, pancreatic cancer, liver cancer, and glioblastoma, attracting patients from across China, including Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, as well as countries such as Australia, Belgium, South Korea, and Malaysia.


During his rounds, Professor Yu Zhilong meticulously reviewed patients’ conditions and treatment progress, engaging in in-depth discussions with departmental doctors. He emphasized that cancer treatment must adhere to the principles of comprehensive strategies and individualized approaches, taking into full account factors such as the patient’s physical condition, tumor type, and stage to develop more scientific and rational treatment plans.

Professor Yu Zhilong’s regular involvement will inject new momentum into the disciplinary development and clinical capabilities of the Wuwei Heavy Ion Center. In the future, Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital will continue to leverage the Heavy Ion Treatment Alliance and expert workstation mechanisms to enhance its comprehensive strength. With the collaborative leadership of high-level experts such as Yu Zhilong, Lan Shengmin, Zhang Yingdong, Ma Changying, and Fan Ruitai, the Wuwei Heavy Ion Center is poised to achieve further breakthroughs in the field of cancer treatment, bringing new hope to more patients.
