Practicing Quality Control, Focusing on Precision Medicine

— Wuwei City Thoracic Surgery Medical Quality Control and Precision Diagnosis & Treatment Promotion Conference Held at the Wuwei Heavy Ion Center

With the vigorous advancement of national healthcare reform, medical operations have entered a new era of refined models. To promote the continuous improvement of medical quality, the state has successively introduced policy documents such as the "Comprehensive Medical Quality Improvement Action Plan (2023-2025)" and the "Monitoring Indicators for the Implementation of Core Medical Quality and Safety Systems (2025 Edition)," aiming to increase the overall five-year cancer survival rate to 46.6%. This reflects the high importance the state places on medical quality and safety, with the goal of enhancing overall medical service levels and ensuring patient safety. To promote the standardized development of thoracic surgery diagnosis and treatment in our city and facilitate the deep integration of precision treatment technology and medical quality management, the "Practicing Quality Control, Focusing on Precision Medicine: Wuwei City Thoracic Surgery Medical Quality Control and Precision Medicine Promotion Conference," hosted by the "Gansu Provincial Thoracic Surgery Medical Quality Control Sub-Center," "Wuwei City Thoracic Surgery Medical Quality Control Center," and "Wuwei City Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Professional Committee," and organized by Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital, was grandly held on August 30, 2025, at the Heavy Ion Campus of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital. The core topics of the conference focused on "Advances in Precision Treatment of Lung Cancer" and "Thoracic Surgery Medical Quality Control Indicators." The conference invited renowned thoracic surgery experts from Gansu Province to deliver lectures.

Vice President Ye Kui of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital delivered a welcome speech and expressed high expectations for the work of the Wuwei City Thoracic Surgery Medical Quality Control Center. Professor Wei Ning, Secretary of the Gansu Provincial Thoracic Surgery Medical Quality Control Center, delivered a speech and outlined the next steps for the quality control work of the thoracic surgery quality control center.

During the academic lecture session, multiple experts shared cutting-edge research results and clinical experiences. Professor Wei Ning from the First Hospital of Lanzhou University presented on "Analysis and Prospects of Survival Outcomes in Perioperative Treatment of EGFR Mutation-Positive NSCLC," providing an in-depth analysis of survival data and future directions for perioperative treatment in such lung cancer patients. Professor Zhu Xiaokang from Gansu Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine lectured on "TNM Staging of Lung Cancer—A Guide for Precision Treatment," detailing the core guiding role of TNM staging in precision diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer. Professor He Shengliang from Gansu Provincial People’s Hospital discussed "Comprehensive Management of Targeted Therapy for Advanced EGFRm SCLC," sharing strategies and clinical practical experiences for the full-course management of targeted therapy in advanced lung cancer. Professor Dang Jiying from Wuwei Liangzhou Hospital shared "Clinical Experience with Subxiphoid Thoracoscopic Extended Thymectomy," introducing the key points and clinical effects of this surgical technique. Director Zhang Yingguo of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital interpreted the "Thoracic Surgery Medical Quality Control Indicators," clarifying specific indicators and implementation pathways for improving thoracic surgery medical quality.

During the interactive discussion session, experts engaged in lively exchanges focused on three key issues: first, optimization directions for precision diagnosis and treatment strategies in thoracic surgery; second, considerations for EGFR-TKI adjuvant therapy in postoperative IB-stage EGFR mutation-positive NSCLC patients; and third, the appropriate duration of postoperative adjuvant therapy. Professor Yang Haining from Liangzhou Hospital, Professor Li Chao from Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital, and Professor Chen Xinfei from Minqin County People’s Hospital shared insights based on clinical practice, providing diverse perspectives for clinical diagnosis and treatment.

This conference aimed to build a communication platform for thoracic surgery professionals in our city to exchange ideas and jointly plan disciplinary development. The content of the conference gathered insightful perspectives, combining theoretical depth with practical relevance, and was concluded successfully. We will take this academic conference as a new opportunity to advance medical quality, with firmer determination, a more pragmatic attitude, and innovative thinking, internalizing quality requirements, and jointly promoting the level of thoracic surgery diagnosis and treatment in our city toward higher quality, greater precision, and enhanced safety. We will continue to drive the medical quality and technical level of thoracic surgery in our city to new heights, empowering patients’ better lives through precision medicine.
