Radiotherapy Center Holds Successful Second Stereotactic Radiotherapy Technique Competition
To further elevate the standards of stereotactic radiotherapy, foster an academic exchange platform, enhance the synergy among doctors, nurses, and technicians, and promote the high-quality development of precision cancer radiotherapy, the Second Stereotactic Radiotherapy Technique Competition of 2026 was successfully held on the afternoon of August 28. The event took place in Conference Room No. 3 of the Heavy Ion Main Building at Wuwei Cancer Hospital, Gansu Province.
The competition was hosted by Chen Hongbing, Director of the Gastrointestinal Surgery Department. Zhang Yanshan, Vice President of the hospital, delivered a special presentation on stereotactic radiotherapy technology. Organized by the Hospital Quality Control Department, the event featured a panel of distinguished experts from the fields of radiotherapy, internal medicine, and surgery. Radiotherapy physicians from across the hospital actively participated, while medical staff from various departments attended to observe and learn. The event was meticulously organized with a tight schedule, fostering a rigorous and vibrant atmosphere for academic exchange.
Prior to the competition, a rigorous process of case collection and preliminary review was conducted. Participants selected real, de-identified clinical cases from the hospital, focusing on challenging complex tumors, lesions in special sites, and typical cases of multidisciplinary treatment, which they presented live via PPT. The contestants provided detailed explanations covering patient history analysis, clinical diagnostic reasoning, precise target delineation, radiotherapy planning, accurate dose control, efficacy evaluation, and follow-up management. This fully demonstrated the solid clinical foundation, rigorous diagnostic thinking, and excellent professional skills of our radiotherapy team.
Following the presentations, instructors conducted in-depth analyses of each case, reviewing both shortcomings and highlights. While fully affirming the clinical approaches and advantages of the participating physicians, they precisely identified weaknesses in the diagnosis and treatment process and offered professional, targeted suggestions for improvement. This effectively fulfilled the original purpose of the competition: to promote learning through competition, drive improvement through evaluation, and facilitate mutual learning and collective advancement.
After the reviews, the panel of judges—Chen Hongbing, An Cunlian, Tao Jichun, Ye Chunsheng, Han Dong, Wei Jinfen, and Tao Wenxue—evaluated and scored the participants based on multiple dimensions, including case authenticity, professional and standardized diagnosis and treatment, clinical application value, and the logic of the live presentations.
The entire competition was conducted adhering to the principles of fairness, impartiality, and transparency. He Nana from the First Department of the Radiotherapy Center won the First Prize. Zhang Yaoyao and Zhang Yonghua from the Second Department of Radiotherapy secured the Second Prize. The Third Prize was awarded to Yang Yuling and Wang Xin from the First Department of the Radiotherapy Center, and Xiong Xiangzhi from the Third Department of Radiotherapy.

At the conclusion of the event, Vice President Zhang Yanshan delivered a summary speech. He highly praised the effectiveness of the competition, systematically reviewed its highlights, and conducted an in-depth analysis of common clinical issues, clarifying the direction for subsequent standardized diagnosis and treatment improvements. He also urged all radiotherapy professionals to deeply cultivate their expertise, uphold the original aspiration of a healer, strive for excellence in technology research, and continuously promote the quality and efficiency improvement and iterative upgrading of stereotactic radiotherapy technology.
Moving forward, our hospital will improve the mechanism for regular academic exchanges, holding case competitions and academic seminars quarterly to continuously enrich and refine the database of classic radiotherapy cases, providing solid support for in-hospital teaching, training, and experience sharing. At the same time, using these competitions as a lever, we will further standardize clinical diagnosis and treatment processes, hone our team of professionals, strengthen the foundation of discipline construction, continuously enhance the comprehensive service capability of precision cancer diagnosis and treatment, and fully safeguard the health and lives of the people in the region.
