Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital Wins Award in 2026 Wuwei PFNA Hip Fracture Surgery Competition
From August 17 to 18, the 2026 Wuwei PFNA Surgery Skills Competition for Elderly Hip Fractures, organized by the Wuwei Municipal Health Commission and hosted by Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital, was successfully held. Orthopedic surgeons from districts and counties across the city competed on the same stage. Our hospital's orthopedic team demonstrated solid professional expertise and stable performance throughout the competition, earning the Team First Prize. They will represent Wuwei City in the upcoming provincial‑level competition.

During the preparation phase, Director Zhang Huawen formed a competition team composed of three physicians — Li Zhiqiang, Li Yanyu, and Wang Liang — and developed a systematic training plan. After two months of intensive training, the team strengthened their theoretical knowledge and conducted hands‑on simulation drills, comprehensively enhancing their clinical skills.
The competition consisted of a written examination, surgical video review, and an on‑site Q&A session, with core content covering diagnosis and management of elderly hip fractures, perioperative care, and osteoporosis prevention and treatment.
During the competition, our team members delivered stable and outstanding performances. Li Yanyu and Li Zhiqiang ranked first and second, respectively, in the written examination, and both achieved excellent results in the surgical video and Q&A segments, ultimately securing the Team First Prize.
This achievement is a reflection of the department's long‑term commitment to clinical excellence, talent development, and standardized care — demonstrating the team's professional competence in the management of elderly hip fractures and orthopedic perioperative care.

The Second Department of Bone and Soft Tissue Oncology at Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital integrates clinical care, education, research, and enhanced recovery protocols. In addition, the department is responsible for standardized residency training and clinical teaching for interns, continuously introducing and implementing new techniques and programs to steadily enhance its capacity to manage complex and critical conditions.

Going forward, the hospital will continue to promote learning and skill enhancement through competition, using discipline development as a key driver to strengthen talent pipeline development and continuously improve specialty care standards. We will align with provincial key specialty construction standards to achieve higher‑quality development. The hospital remains committed to a patient‑centered approach, integrating multidisciplinary resources and optimizing clinical services to safeguard the health of the community and contribute to the high‑quality development of healthcare in Wuwei.
