[Good News] Our Hospital's Integrative Medicine Department Honored as "Wuwei City's Traditional Chinese Medicine Advantage Specialty"

Recently, the Wuwei Municipal Health Commission officially announced the evaluation results for the "Wuwei City Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Advantage Specialty." Our hospital's "Integrative Medicine Department" was successfully awarded this honor due to its profound foundation in TCM, outstanding clinical efficacy, and comprehensive service system. This accolade not only serves as an authoritative recognition of the diagnostic and treatment capabilities of our hospital's Integrative Medicine Department but also stands as a strong testament to our commitment to the inheritance and innovation of TCM.

In the future, the Integrative Medicine Department will take this recognition as a "Municipal TCM Advantage Specialty" as an opportunity to deepen the development of TCM characteristics:

(1) Optimize diagnosis and treatment plans for advantageous diseases, conduct evidence-based research on clinical efficacy, and further enhance the ability to treat complex and severe illnesses;

(2) Strengthen collaboration with provincial-level TCM specialty alliances, participate in pilot programs for integrated Chinese and Western medicine in treating major and difficult diseases, and establish a regional diagnosis and treatment hub;

Introduction to the Integrative Medicine Department/TCM Oncology Specialty

The Integrative Medicine Department of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital is a key TCM specialty and a TCM advantage specialty in Wuwei City. The TCM Oncology Specialty is the largest of its kind in Wuwei City. The department operates 5 TCM-specific outpatient clinics and 1 inpatient ward. Currently, the department has 20 medical staff, including 1 chief physician, 2 associate chief physicians, 4 attending physicians, 1 resident physician, 3 master's degree holders, 1 renowned TCM physician in Wuwei City, and 8 disciples of Professor Pei Zhengxue, a renowned Chinese integrative medicine expert and nationally acclaimed veteran TCM practitioner. Additionally, there are 12 nursing staff. The department has led 3 provincial-level research projects and 15 municipal-level research projects, winning 1 second prize and 2 third prizes of the Gansu Huangfu Mi Traditional Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Award, 4 second prizes of the Wuwei Science and Technology Progress Award, 2 practical medical patents, published over 80 medical papers, and authored 2 monographs.

The department focuses on the integrative treatment of tumors, gastrointestinal diseases, rheumatic immune diseases, skin diseases, and neck, shoulder, lower back, and leg pain. Upholding the philosophy of integrative medicine in oncology, the department employs a systematic health management system for "comprehensive and full-life-cycle rehabilitation management of cancer patients." It leverages the advantages of TCM in reducing toxicity and enhancing efficacy throughout the entire treatment process, including pre- and post-surgery, heavy ion therapy, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy, to maximize patient quality of life, prolong survival, and reduce the risk of recurrence and metastasis. The department offers a range of appropriate TCM technologies, including acupuncture, electroacupuncture, wax therapy, moxibustion, spreading moxibustion, insulated moxibustion, Chinese herbal fumigation and washing, cupping, gua sha, external high-frequency thermotherapy, cervical and lumbar traction, massage, acupoint catgut embedding, acupoint application, acupoint injection, ear tip bloodletting, auricular plaster therapy, block therapy, foot baths, bloodletting therapy, Sanfu plaster, and Sanjiu plaster therapies.
