Oncology Leader Professor Liu Qiufang Joins Hospital, Elevating Cancer Care to New Heights
[Renowned Doctor Leads the Way] Industry Leader Professor Liu Qiufang Joins Our Hospital, Empowering a New Journey in Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment
Recently, Professor Liu Qiufang, a senior expert in radiotherapy from Shaanxi Cancer Hospital, has joined the Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital in a regular residency mode, conducting clinical guidance and operating special-needs outpatient clinics. Through a model combining "frontline guidance + precision diagnosis and treatment," she is injecting professional momentum into enhancing the center's radiotherapy discipline development and clinical service capabilities, further expanding the depth and breadth of cross-regional radiotherapy collaboration.

As a renowned expert in the field of radiation oncology, Professor Liu Qiufang has dedicated nearly 30 years to this specialty, possessing profound expertise in precise radiotherapy and comprehensive treatment for malignancies such as lung cancer, nasopharyngeal carcinoma, and breast cancer. She has led or participated in more than twenty provincial and municipal research projects, published over 40 papers (including 7 indexed by SCI), and contributed to the compilation of the "2020 Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology (CSCO) Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma Guidelines." Her professional competence is widely recognized within the industry.
Professor Liu Qiufang conducts teaching rounds in the radiotherapy wards. By discussing specific cases, she exchanges views with departmental medical staff on radiotherapy plan design, implementation details, adverse reaction management, and efficacy evaluation, sharing valuable insights from her extensive clinical practice. Her profound professional knowledge and humanistic care have earned widespread recognition from patients and their families.

In recent years, Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital has achieved significant results in promoting the heavy ion treatment alliance and establishing 50 expert workstations. As the only hospital globally operating two heavy ion treatment systems simultaneously, Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital is consistently committed to the continuous development and innovation of cancer treatment technologies. The Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center is the second heavy ion clinical application center in China with independent intellectual property rights operated by Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital. This system commenced clinical operations at the Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center on November 15, 2024. To date, the center has completed photon and heavy ion treatment for over 400 patients, covering diseases such as lung cancer, pancreatic cancer, liver cancer, and glioblastoma.

Professor Liu Qiufang's current visit and guidance further reflect the Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center's philosophy of "Gathering Global Cutting-Edge Technologies to Universally Benefit Cancer Patients." The center not only focuses on introducing internationally advanced heavy ion treatment technologies and facilitating technical exchanges with experts from countries like Japan and Germany but also actively recruits top domestic clinical experts. Through activities like ward rounds, outpatient clinics, and lectures, it promotes the standardization of clinical practices and the homogenization of diagnosis and treatment levels, continuously strengthening the connotative development of the discipline.

In the future, the Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center will continue to rely on its characteristic heavy ion therapy technology platform, deepen collaborations with renowned experts from various domestic cancer diagnosis and treatment centers, and continuously integrate advanced diagnosis and treatment concepts with local practice through regular expert working mechanisms. It aims to promote the synergistic development of clinical services, scientific research, and talent cultivation, steadily advancing towards the goal of building an internationally influential hub for heavy ion cancer diagnosis and treatment, thereby providing more cancer patients with high-quality, individualized, and advanced treatment options.
