Professor Chen Kaibing, a luminary in sleep neuroregulation from Gansu Provincial Hospital of TCM and a distinguished researcher at Gansu University of Chinese Medicine, as Chief Consultant of our Psychosomatic Sleep Rehabilitation Unit.

Heavy Ion Rehabilitation Department's Mental Wellness & Sleep Center is built to meet new health demands, promote the “psychosomatic treatment” concept, and create a regional sleep medicine hub. It is located in the Building 5 of the Heavy Ion Rehabilitation Department in the Heavy Ion Hospital District.

The unit is staffed with 4 physicians, 3 psychotherapists, 6 rehabilitation therapists, and 6 nurses. The department is equipped with various specialized rooms, including a polysomnography (sleep study) room, a psychological stress analysis room, a brain neuromodulation room, a mindfulness meditation room, a functional training room, a physical therapy room, a moxibustion room, an acupuncture room, a health tea experience room, and a health nutrition guidance room.

The facility is equipped with advanced psychological assessment systems, multifunctional slow-wave sleep cabins, VR relaxation training systems, transcranial magnetic stimulation systems, neuro-electrophysiological therapy systems, and traditional Chinese medicine treatment equipment. The unit has 10 specialized beds and provides professional services for inpatients with sleep-related disorders. It offers both outpatient and inpatient treatments for conditions such as insomnia, sleep apnea, narcolepsy, sleepwalking, REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD), and sleep and psychological disorders in adolescents.

Professor Chen Kaibing is an exemplary representative of medical professionals from Wuwei, deeply rooted in his hometown with unwavering dedication to his community. He serves as the Director of the Sleep Disorders Department at Gansu University of Chinese Medicine Affiliated Hospital and serves as a doctoral supervisor. His distinguished roles include Deputy Director of the Sleep Disorders Committee under the Chinese Geriatrics Society, Executive Director of the Gansu Sleep Research Association, and Chairman of the association’s Youth Committee. As a nationally renowned expert in sleep medicine, Professor Chen specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep-related disorders, particularly excelling in the integrated application of traditional Chinese and Western medicine to address conditions such as insomnia, sleep apnea, narcolepsy, sleepwalking, REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD), and adolescent sleep and psychological disorders.  

Professor Chen has led or participated in more than ten research projects funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Logistics Department of the Central Military Commission, and national and provincial-level initiatives. He has published over 10 SCI-indexed papers and 10 CSCD-indexed articles on sleep-related topics, and has authored or co-authored four academic books and textbooks.

Professor Chen's joining our center is a prime example of our city's efforts to attract top talent and a significant achievement in our hospital's mission to establish specialized platforms, recruit experts, and expand the heavy ion therapy industry. In the future, Professor Chen Kaibing will regularly provide technical guidance and clinical training at our center, personally serving the local community and contributing to the growth and development of our institution.

Since its establishment in March 2022, the Heavy Ion Rehabilitation Unit at our hospital has pioneered the innovative "10S Sleep Management Concept" under the guidance of Prof Ye Yancheng, President of the hospital and First-Class Chief Physician. This comprehensive approach integrates:Adaptive warm lighting, Crisp olfactory profile, Biophilic chromotherapy spectrum, Tranquil music, Balanced diet, Comfortable pillows, Refined sachets, Customized Chinese herbal remedies, Scientific physiotherapy, Moderate exercise.

This groundbreaking model has brought transformative benefits to patients with sleep disorders, earning widespread recognition.

In June 2024, Ye Chunsheng—a health manager, licensed pharmacist, and Associate Chief Physician of integrated Chinese and Western medicine internal medicine—was appointed to lead the unit’s medical services. He introduced a novel "drug-free sleep therapy" combining: Traditional exercise regimens for wellness, Breathing and meditation practices, Mindfulness meditation, Acupuncture and tuina (Chinese therapeutic massage) for external therapy, Physiotherapy as adjuvant care.

This expansion of the Psychosomatic Sleep Center’s services has significantly enhanced patient trust and outcomes.

Amid an atmosphere of celebration, Zhang Weihong, Secretary of the Party Committee of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital, unveiled the plaque for the "Professor Chen Kaibing Sleep Medicine Clinic" and awarded him a Specialist Appointment Certificate. Prof Chen, alongside his team—including Dr. Zhou Yanna and licensed psychotherapists—promptly began conducting standardized assessments and evidence-based treatments for sleep disorders. Their work blended meticulous professionalism with empathetic care, leaving patients hopeful and satisfied.

Seizing every moment, Prof Chen then guided the center’s first "Anesthesia-Sleep Balance Therapy (ASBT)" for patient Ms. Zhao, :using cutting-edge polysomnography-guided technology. When she awoke refreshed and expressed profound satisfaction, both her family and staff marveled at the results. Post-treatment, Prof Chen further trained the team on technical protocols and precautions, solidifying the center’s commitment to excellence in sleep health innovation.

In the afternoon, Prof Chen conducted a theoretical training session for the center’s staff and led a group psychotherapy session for inpatients. Every patient who received care expressed that his joining the center is a tremendous asset to the Psychosomatic Sleep Center of the Heavy Ion Rehabilitation Unit and a blessing for patients across the hospital.

Prof Chen emphasized his profound dedication for his hometown and his admiration for the rapid development of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital. He pledged to dedicate his utmost efforts to advancing healthcare in his hometown and contributing to its medical progress.
