【Good News】​ Our Hospital's Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine Department Approved for "Gansu Province Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine 'Flagship' Department Construction Project"

Recently, the Gansu Provincial Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine officially released the "Notice on the List of Provincial-Level Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine 'Flagship' Department Construction Projects."Our hospital's "Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine Department," leveraging its profound foundation in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), outstanding clinical efficacy, and comprehensive service system, successfully secured approval for this construction project.

In the future, the Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine Department will take this project construction as an opportunity to enhance its capacity for integrated Chinese and Western medicine diagnosis and treatment services. It will establish and improve the management and operational systems and mechanisms for the "flagship" department, strengthen support safeguards, and foster the department's high-quality development. We will continue to deepen the development of TCM characteristics:

(1) Optimize diagnosis and treatment plans for advantageous diseases, conduct evidence-based research on clinical efficacy, and further improve the capacity for treating difficult and severe illnesses;

(2) Strengthen collaboration with provincial TCM specialty alliances, participate in pilot projects for integrated Chinese and Western medicine treatment of major and difficult diseases, and build a regional diagnosis and treatment hub;

(3) Expand the coverage of appropriate TCM techniques, popularize the "preventive healthcare" concept, and make TCM services more accessible to the public;

(4) Vigorously promote the integration of science and education to enhance the innovation capability of the specialty;

(5) Widely promote the "TCM + Heavy-Ion" whole-life-cycle tumor treatment plan, pioneering a new integrated medical model for tumor treatment;

(6) Continuously advance the construction of TCM advantageous specialties within the department and actively strive to become a provincial-level TCM advantageous specialty.

Introduction to the Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine Department / TCM Oncology Specialty

The Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine Department of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital is a key TCM specialty and an advantageous TCM specialty in Wuwei City. The TCM Oncology Specialty is the largest of its kind in Wuwei City. It operates 5 TCM characteristic outpatient clinics and 1 inpatient department. The department currently has 20 medical staff, including 1 Chief Physician, 2 Associate Chief Physicians, 4 Attending Physicians, 1 Resident Physician, 3 Master's degree holders, 1 renowned TCM physician of Wuwei City, and 8 direct disciples of Professor Pei Zhengxue, a renowned Chinese expert in integrated Chinese and Western medicine and a nationally celebrated senior TCM practitioner. There are also 12 nursing staff. The department has led 3 provincial-level research projects and 15 municipal-level research projects. It has received 1 Second Prize and 2 Third Prizes of the Gansu Province Huangfu Mi TCM Science and Technology Award, 4 Second Prizes of the Wuwei City Science and Technology Progress Award, 2 practical medical invention patents, published 2 monographs, and over 80 medical papers.

The department focuses on integrated Chinese and Western medicine treatment for tumors, gastrointestinal diseases, rheumatism and immune diseases, skin diseases, and neck, shoulder, lower back, and leg pain. Upholding the philosophy of integrated Chinese and Western medicine in oncology, it applies the systematic health management system of "Comprehensive Whole-Life-Cycle Rehabilitation Management for Tumor Patients." Throughout the entire treatment process—including pre- and post-operation, heavy-ion therapy, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy—TCM is utilized to reduce toxicity and enhance efficacy, aiming to maximize patient quality of life, prolong survival, and reduce the risk of recurrence and metastasis. The department offers various appropriate TCM techniques, including acupuncture, electro-acupuncture, wax therapy, moxibustion, spreading moxibustion, indirect moxibustion, herbal fumigation and washing, cupping, guasha, external high-frequency hyperthermia, cervical and lumbar traction, massage/tui na, acupoint catgut embedding, acupoint application, acupoint injection, ear tip bloodletting, auricular seed pressing, block therapy, foot baths, bloodletting therapy, and Dog Days (Sanfu) and Midwinter (Sanjiu) acupoint patch therapies.
