On January 8th, Professor Wang Junjie, the 10th Chairman of the Radiotherapy Society of the Chinese Medical Association and President of the Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital, along with Professor Yu Jianjun from the Thyroid and Breast Surgery Department of the People's Hospital of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, conducted their routine in-person consultations for complex cases and teaching ward rounds at our hospital. As a leading figure in the domestic radiotherapy field, Professor Wang Junjie has dedicated decades to oncology radiotherapy, with profound achievements in radiotherapy technological innovation and the diagnosis and treatment of complex cases. Serving as the 10th Chairman of the Radiotherapy Society of the Chinese Medical Association, he consistently stands at the forefront of the discipline, driving the development and standardization of radiotherapy technology in China. During his visit, President Wang Junjie conducted in-depth teaching ward rounds in the radiotherapy ward, listened to reports from doctors of various clinical departments, and emphasized enhancing diagnostic and therapeutic precision by refining radiotherapy specialty subdivisions. Professor Yu Jianjun, a leading expert specializing in thyroid and breast tumor surgery, possesses a professional background notable for both depth and breadth. He is not only the Chief Specialist for Thyroid and Breast at the People's Hospital of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region but also holds multiple prestigious roles, including being a member of the Expert Panel on Thyroid Tumor Ablation Therapy Technology of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, and the inaugural Discipline Leader of Oncological Surgery at Ningxia Medical University. In clinical practice, he pioneered over ten core techniques in Ningxia, such as thermal ablation for thyroid and parathyroid tumors, total endoscopic thyroid surgery via the axillary approach, and endoscopy-assisted radical resection for early-stage differentiated thyroid cancer. His expertise covers the entire spectrum of thyroid and breast tumor management, including minimally invasive therapy, radical surgery, breast reconstruction, and interventional treatment for advanced-stage tumors, establishing a comprehensive and cutting-edge diagnosis and treatment system.

During the consultations, Professor Yu meticulously reviewed the medical records of pre-scheduled patients, patiently inquired about medical histories, conducted detailed analyses of conditions, formulated personalized treatment plans, and encouraged patients to build confidence in overcoming their illnesses.

The text also highlights the significant achievements made by Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital in recent years in promoting the Heavy Ion Therapy Alliance and establishing 50 expert workstations. As the only hospital in the world operating two heavy ion therapy systems simultaneously, Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital remains committed to the continuous development and innovation of cancer treatment technologies. The Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center is the second clinical application center for China's proprietary heavy ion technology operated by the hospital. This system commenced clinical operations at the Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center on November 15, 2024. To date, the center has completed photon and heavy ion treatments for over 400 patients, covering conditions such as lung cancer, pancreatic cancer, liver cancer, and brain glioma.
