Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital

The Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital is the second clinical application center for heavy ion therapy with independent intellectual property rights operated by Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital. Together with the first China-made heavy ion therapy system, the second China-made heavy ion tumor therapy system was put into clinical operation at the Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center on November 15, 2024. As of now, the center has completed heavy ion and photon therapy for over 450 patients, covering tumor types including lung cancer, pancreatic cancer, liver cancer, and glioma.

The center has cultivated an exceptional talent system, establishing an expert workstation led by 50 top industry authorities, including Professor Shen Wenjiang, Professor Emeritus of the Department of Radiation Oncology at Peking University Health Science Center, and Professor Xu Bo, Standing Committee Member of the Chinese Medical Association's Radiation Oncology Committee. Professor Wang Junjie, Chairman of the Chinese Medical Association's Radiation Oncology Branch, serves as the Dean, providing strong technical support for heavy ion therapy.

Furthermore, the center is equipped with a series of cutting-edge radiotherapy devices, including the Varian VitalBeam medical linear accelerator, the Elekta Infinity four-dimensional image-guided linear accelerator, a 3.0T MRI simulator, a GE 256-slice advanced CT scanner, and a Varian Iridium-192 imported afterloader. These hardware facilities lay a solid foundation for heavy ion therapy, ensuring both efficiency and precision in the treatment process.

Aiming to build a comprehensive, whole-lifecycle tumor treatment system, the center has established clinical departments including Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology/Hematology, Surgical Oncology, Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Oncology Rehabilitation, Minimally Invasive Intervention Center, Critical Care Medicine, and Digestive Endoscopy Center. It offers treatments such as heavy ion radiotherapy, photon radiotherapy, chemotherapy, minimally invasive interventional therapy, and comprehensive medical and surgical oncology care.

The hospital is equipped with advanced medical diagnostic technology and devices. It has established medical technology departments including Radiology, Clinical Laboratory, Ultrasound Medicine, Blood Bank, and Hematology Center Laboratory, offering services such as CT/MRI diagnostic imaging, medical laboratory tests, ultrasound diagnosis and interventional procedures, and bone marrow cell morphology examinations to meet patient diagnostic needs.

The Minimally Invasive Intervention Center is equipped with an Iodine-125 radioactive seed tumor brachytherapy system and a body implantation navigation and positioning system, a GE digital subtraction angiography machine, a microwave coagulation therapy device, and an argon-helium knife cryoablation system. These enable precise treatments for cancer patients through embolization, ablation, and brachytherapy.
