A Volunteer's Day

On a sunny summer morning, the warm rays of sunlight filtered through the glass windows and spilled onto the marble floor tiles of the outpatient hall of the hospital. In accordance with the hospital's work plan formulated at the beginning of the year, with the aim of effectively enhancing the hospital's medical service standards, enabling volunteers to gain a practical experience of the hospital's working environment, facilitating their prompt familiarity with volunteer service tasks, and further strengthening the volunteer service philosophy of "dedication to others and self - improvement", our hospital commenced the trial operation of volunteer services today. A number of volunteers assembled early, fully prepared to embark on their volunteer missions.

After putting on the special red vests for volunteers, the person in charge of the Support Center introduced the layout of each floor of the outpatient department to everyone. They also explained the general overview of volunteer work and various precautions for volunteer services. Subsequently, the person in charge led the volunteers to get acquainted with the consulting experts, equipment, environment on each floor, the corresponding services that could be provided to patients, and taught them how to use the hospital's self - service machines. After the tour of each floor, according to their respective "responsibility areas", the volunteer activities officially kicked off.

Early in the morning, the hospital bustled with activity. People were coming and going, with patients of all ages, from the elderly to the young, scurrying through the corridors. Some wore worried expressions, looking lost and uncertain, while others seemed calm and composed. The responsibility of the volunteers was to assist those patients in need. They showed patients the way, taught them how to register quickly, how to collect test results, and provided any other help within their capabilities.

Before long, the volunteers welcomed the first patient in need of assistance. It was an aunt in her 40s who was accompanying her elderly mother to see a doctor. They stood in the outpatient hall, looking around, not knowing which way to go. Seeing this, a volunteer stepped forward. After asking a few questions, it turned out that the old woman wanted to go to the inpatient department to handle the hospitalization procedures but couldn't understand the hospital's signs. Since the hospital's inpatient department was in another building, not far away but with them carrying big and small bags. So, the volunteer supported the old woman and helped them carry their things, walking towards the toll office of the inpatient department and assisted them in handling the hospitalization procedures. Just as the volunteer was about to leave, they called out to the volunteer, softly saying "Thank you," and then turned and left. Although that "Thank you" wasn't loud, it was like a clear spring, gurgling into the volunteer's heart, a recognition of the volunteer's efforts.

Since then, many more patients have received help. As the saying goes, when you give someone a rose, your hand has lingering fragrance. When volunteers help others, they also get happiness, and their lives become full, and the meaning of their lives is reflected here.

Through a period of trial operation, our hospital will comprehensively promote the "volunteer service" activity in the whole hospital to further facilitate the people to see a doctor, popularize the concept of volunteer medical service widely in the whole society, strive to improve the "volunteer hospital service" system, establish a long-term mechanism of "volunteer hospital service", and promote the in-depth development of volunteer medical service. Make more people become hospital service volunteers, create a good atmosphere of respect for patients and medical staff in the whole society, and strive to build a harmonious doctor-patient relationship.
