Renowned Radiotherapy Expert Professor Fan Ruitai Provides 4-Day Clinical Guidance at Wuwei Heavy Ion Center

From May 11 to 14, Professor Fan Ruitai, a renowned expert in the field of tumor radiotherapy from the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, was invited to visit the Heavy Ion Campus of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital. During his four-day stay, he conducted ward rounds, multidisciplinary consultations, and expert outpatient services. This initiative to bring in high-quality national-level medical resources aims to further enhance our hospital's comprehensive tumor diagnosis and treatment capabilities, allowing local patients to receive top-tier medical services without leaving their hometown.

Professor Fan Ruitai is a second-level professor, chief physician, and doctoral and postdoctoral supervisor. He serves as the academic leader of the Key Clinical Specialty of Oncology at the Ministry of Health, a standing committee member of the Chinese Society of Radiation Oncology, and chairman of the Radiation Oncology Branch of the Henan Medical Association, among other important academic positions. He has accumulated extensive clinical experience in the field of precision radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma, lung cancer, esophageal cancer, breast cancer, and head and neck tumors, and is highly regarded in the domestic radiotherapy community.

During his stay, Professor Fan conducted thorough clinical guidance in the radiation oncology ward and the heavy ion therapy center. During ward rounds, he examined each patient with complex or critical conditions one by one, carefully taking medical histories and studying imaging data. Engaging in in-depth discussions with our hospital's medical staff, he integrated disease progression and treatment course to formulate personalized treatment plans for each patient. In multidisciplinary consultations, Professor Fan provided detailed explanations and precise evaluations regarding the development of comprehensive radiotherapy treatment plans for complex cases, effectively broadening the team's diagnostic and therapeutic perspectives and standardizing clinical procedures. During his outpatient sessions, he patiently attended to patients, meticulously reviewed imaging findings, and offered authoritative and professional diagnostic and treatment recommendations based on clinical staging, earning widespread recognition and praise from patients and their families.

During the multidisciplinary team (MDT) consultation session, Professor Fan Ruitai and Professor Yee-Min Jen jointly led several in-house radiotherapy specialists in comprehensive discussions and lively debates on multiple complex and challenging tumor cases. Integrating core patient information such as tumor stage, pathological type, and general health status, they provided detailed explanations and authoritative evaluations from multiple perspectives, including optimal timing of radiotherapy, precise target volume delineation, formulation of combined treatment regimens, and prevention and management of adverse effects. Their insights helped our hospital team broaden their diagnostic and therapeutic perspectives, standardize clinical procedures, optimize treatment strategies, and elevate the overall level of multidisciplinary collaborative care.
